Therapy & Consultation
Psychotherapy is a process by which an individual, couple, or family can learn to cope with uncomfortable emotions, make specific behavioral changes and increase self-understanding. A large part of working with a therapist will be creating a safe and confidential therapeutic relationship. Research shows, and we believe, that the therapeutic relationship is an integral part of positive change. Therefore, as professionals, we will use our knowledge and skills to help you, while continually attempting to create a trusting and safe environment for you to work through the difficulties that brought you to therapy. The goals of therapy can include symptom relief, positive coping, behavioral change, self-understanding and improved interpersonal relationships. As you progress through therapy, we will continue to evaluate progress towards your goals.
Individuals
If you are interested in individual therapy, please contact us for a free initial 15-minute phone consultation. This creates an opportunity to see if DMHP will be a good fit for you and assess therapist compatibility. If you would like to move forward with therapy after the initial consultation, sessions will be anywhere from 50-55 minutes in length. The first session will be a chance to go over questions you may have, and to gather more background information about you and what brought you to therapy. Towards the end of the session you will discuss and collaborate with your therapist on your goals for treatment.
Athletes
We provide individual therapy and performance counseling services specifically geared toward junior, collegiate, elite, and professional athletes. Treatment for anxiety, depression, relationship/familial concerns, life transitions, as well as dealing with injury/return to sport are among our specialities. For more information on our experience and approach to therapy for athletes, please visit the For Athletes page.
Consultation
DMHP provides not only individual therapy, but also consultation services to student-athletes, coaches, administration, and sports medicine staff. If you are having questions about your athlete’s mental health, or mental performance, as a coach or sports medicine staff–we are here to help. If you are interested in having DMHP work with your team, feel free to contact us.
Insurance
Most DMHP providers are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plans. If you have BCBS, you may choose to go through your insurance and an estimate of your payment or co-payment can be provided to you.
Out-of-network reimbursement may also be available depending on your insurance plan. We accept all major credit cards, as well as HSA cards.
